The Museum of Bećarac is a place of understanding, love and pride for a two verses song that sings about the most diverse life situations. We put eight years of dedicated work into a museum exhibition through which we extensively document and interpret this heritage phenomenon and the people who are inseparably connected with it!
We invite you on a journey to the heart of Slavonia that will inspire you forever! Multimedia content, authentic museum objects, top-quality author’s illustrations and photographs, artistic documentary and animated films integrated into the meticulously designed scenography of the exhibition stimulate all the senses, engaging your heart and mind.
We wanted to encourage visitors not only to dialogue with bećarac, its local community and the various forms of UNESCO intangible heritage, but to also connect with each other and discover their own traditional values.
As the bećarac follows the life of every Šokac from birth to death, through five large exhibition units we have highlighted universal themes such as growing up, first love, sexuality, weddings, old age and different customs throughout the year. We also paid attention to the women and men that celebrated bećarac, and we further actualised this humorous song through robotics, rap, karaoke, international cultural routes and heritage organisations. Through more than 40 interactive exhibits, you can connect with personal stories, cheer on the participants of a real bećarac competition, arrange your “garden” or sing bećarac in a music studio.
How did we shape the Museum of Bećarac?
From the moment we recognised that the Museum of Bećarac is an indispensable part of “The World of Graševina”, our vision of its experiences gradually took on a clearer shape. Until 2023, we were accompanied on this heritage adventure by many excellent experts and renowned collaborators: designers, ethnologists, writers, filmmakers, illustrators, sculptors and other creatives. Throughout all eight years, we have worked intensively with the local community, for which it was crucial for us to be authentically presented, so that its values touch every visitor and that their wisdom, pride and skills are successfully passed on to the younger generations.
